Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program


The United States of America's embassy and consulate in Nigeria is calling for applications for the 2018 Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) Program. The program aims to provide Nigerian teachers with opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills, and increase their knowledge of the Unites States.
The program consists of a six-week training in areas such as teaching methodologies, curriculum development, lesson planning, teaching strategies and instructional technology. Cultural enrichment, mentoring and support will be provided throughout the program.
Eligibility criteria
This opportunity is open to Secondary school teachers in the following disciplines;
English or English as a ForeignLanguage
Social Studies ( Civics, History, Geography, etc)
Mathematics
Science
Special Education teachers in the disciplines listed above.
Applicants must:
Have five or more years of classroom experience
Have earned a bachelor's degree or equivalent
Be citizens of and residents in Nigeria
Demonstrate a commitment to continue teaching after completion of the program
Obtain a minimum score of 450 on paper-based TOEFL ( Candidates do not need to take the test before applying. After a successful application and interview, candidates will be required to take the TOEFL tests.)

Program dates in the U.S.: 
Cohort I: January- March 2018
Cohort II: September- November 2018

Selection timeline
Application Deadline: April 28, 2017
Interview with shortlisted candidates: May 2017
TOEFL tests: May 20, 2017
Final selections: June - August 2017
Notification of finalists: September 2017
