University of Ottawa Scholarship for Visiting Scholars in Women Studies

The institute of Feminist and Gender Studies, University of Ottawa, Canada is making a call for applications from qualified Canadian and non-Canadian scholars, both tenured and untenured faculty, post-doctoral fellows and independent researchers who are interested in feminist, women's or gender issues. The scholarship is funded by the Bank of Montreal, Canada.
Duration of program: 3-6 months
Scholarship Prize: $ 4000 which may be used to supplement research or travel expenses
Application deadline: 31st December 2016
Applications should include a letter of intent, a curriculum vitae, a detailed statement of the research project (2 pages maximum), copies of, or links to, recent publications, the dates of the proposed stay at the University of Ottawa and the names of two referees.

When it comes to marriage, do the academic qualifications really matter? I have often heard some men and even women in certain circles criticize single women taking higher degrees (especially doctorates). The summary of their conversation is usually: 1. No man who is yet to attain that level of learning would be confident enough to approach a grad student 2. The ladies will probably be too proud of their achievements to settle for less academically. I believe this argument is flawed because; Not everyone desires to be married. So that lady who you are assuming  to be proud might just be uninterested in the institution. Also, e veryone needs a good dose of self confidence. So as a man who is interested in a graduate student, I suggest you build up your self confidence and approach her rather than criticize a young intelligent woman for her choices. What do you think? Hard work + Pure joy

Hi guys, I had this coursework to get done and my deadline was so close. I decided I could put in a few days of extra work to meet up. As I picked up my laptop to work that evening, little Ammy  had plans of her own. She must have thought, ' how can mummy work on her computer when I need her to be dancing to 'Wheels on the bus' with me at this time'. I thought of how much easier school life would have been without her, how much more sleep I would have gotten and how much more late nights I could have spent in the labs without permission. But you know what - I also thought of what my life would have been without her. I would definitely have it no other way.    The life of a schooling mummy- hard work + pure joy.
